YOU DON'T NEED A TITLE TO BE USED BY GOD

Updated: Jun 13, 2023

“I’m just a gap filler.”

I shared these words to best friend years ago during a long road trip. I had been struggling to find my place in ministry. It seemed I never had a set spot and was always filling in the gaps of what everyone else was doing. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing but my view on it wasn’t life giving.

My besties response to my statement above, “I don’t ever want to hear you say that again. You are a bridge not a gap filler.”

She knew my heart for serving the Lord and the church. She knew my desire to live with purpose. Her words marked me in that moment.

A bridge connects two points, two places. A bridge overcomes an obstacle to assist in achieving a common outcome. A bridge allows others to come along safely and efficiently.

I wasn’t just filling a hole in ministry. God was using me to help further His purpose. But for some reason I was so caught up in feeling like my lack of title or leadership position was a disqualifying factor to being a tool for the Kingdom of God.

The moment I saw what God was doing in my life as a bridge and not a gap filler was HUGE for me. No title could ever replace the honor of unseen service. No position could ever fulfill the call of God on my life.

We don’t need titles, positions or crowns. We simply need a willing heart and the right mindset. No act of service for Jesus is ever “just” anything. It is all vital and important. Sure some of us will be seen and some of us will not.

Whether you are standing front and center or serving somewhere nobody knows, the Lord is thrilled. He loves partnering with us in every single thing.

You don’t need a title to be used by God. Cast down that lie. Stop seeking honor for yourself and simply live for Him. You are a son. You are a daughter. You are a royal priesthood. You are the Gospel in motion.

Plus the Lord knows you and calls you by name. I can’t imagine a more worthwhile title to be called than HIS!

“Jesus answered, “If I honor Myself, My honor is nothing. It is My Father who honors Me, of whom you say that He is your God.” (John‬ ‭8‬:‭54‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)
