I NEVER PLANNED ON BEING A HOMEMAKER

Updated: Jun 13, 2023

As a young girl I wanted to conquer the world. I wanted to be a “boss babe” and make my mark. My life today looks vastly different than I expected it would. For that I am so thankful. Being a “boss babe” is cool and to all of those women slaying the game, keep doing your thing because you’re inspirational. But for me…God gifted me a heart and desire to devote myself to homemaking. It’s not about cooking and baking. It’s not about keeping a spotless home. It’s not about never falling behind on laundry. Sure those are expressions of this high calling. However, it’s about the people I get to serve daily.

At one point I thought tending to the home was so outdated. Serving my husband and serving my sons…that’s a tremendous opportunity I get every single day. I think homemaking has gotten a bad rap because we are stuck in seeing the 1950’s standards. With that said the 50’s instilled some strong attributes that I believe still hold value. Homemaking in todays world is about celebrating our families and the households we’ve been blessed with.

I’m not your run of the mill homemaker. I love black paint. I love takeout. I’m not the best baker. I don’t like the farmhouse style. I rarely follow a homeschool schedule. I let my kids have way too much screen time. But this is OUR HOME and that’s the whole point. Homemaking means tailoring your efforts to serve YOUR FAMILY style.

I don’t JUST stay home. I’m not JUST a wife. I’m not JUST a mom. It’s not JUST a house. When we serve our households through the art of homemaking, whether we do it full time or balance it along working outside the home, the atmosphere of love thrives.

Rejoice in the life God has given to you. Rejoice in the now season. Rejoice in the gracefully mundane moments. Rejoice in the fact that your house is the home you’ve been entrusted to steward. It’s a gift!
